作者介紹

英方，大學(xué)教授，從事多年高校管理工作。少時隨父母在農(nóng)村插隊，后進工廠當工人。恢復(fù)高考后考入大學(xué)讀書，博士 畢業(yè)留校任教至今。在專業(yè)科研和教學(xué)之外，業(yè)余愛好漫畫，并為一些書籍繪制插圖。已創(chuàng)作完成若干漫畫繪本小說。出版有漫畫作品《王二的婚事》等。

我是一只小老鼠。媽媽帶我來到這個世界，我愛這個世界，也愛你們。但是，你們愛我嗎？

I am a little mouse. My mother brought me into this world. I love this world and I love you, too. But do you love me?

我可能長得不太好看，要不人們總說我鼠頭鼠腦呢！ 可媽媽從來不這樣說，她希望我長大能有出息。

I am not good-looking. Maybe that is why people al-ways think I look thievish. But my mother never says anything like that about me. She wants me to be suc-cessful when I grow up.

我從生下來就沒看見過爸爸。媽媽說，他在城里打工，掙錢養(yǎng)活我們。媽媽手巧，我穿的衣服都是她自己做的。

I have never met my father. My mother told me that he had gone to work in the city to support us. Mother was clever with her hands and had made all my clothing.

家里三頓飯都是媽媽做。吃飯時讓我用大碗，媽媽用小碗。我愛吃的菜，媽媽都說她不愛吃。

My mother also cooked three meals every day. When we had dinner, she always let me use the large bowl while she used the small one. She always told me that she didn’t like the foods I liked.

我有一本書，是爸爸從城里帶回來的，講老鼠與鴨子的故事。而媽媽說那是外國的，我們講老鼠嫁女。

I had a book, brought back for me by my father from the city. The book told the story of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. My mother said that was a foreign story. We had our own stories. One of them was about how a mouse tried to arrange a marriage for its daughter.

我家也養(yǎng)了幾只鴨子。鴨子跟我好，因為我每天喂它們。

My family also raised a few ducks. The ducks were my friends because I fed them every day.

我每天夜里睡覺時，媽媽還在燈下蹬縫紉機，幫人家做衣服。機器聲成了我的催眠曲，沒有還睡不著。

Every night when I was sleeping, my mother was still pedaling the sewing machine to fill orders from other people. The lamplight and the sound of the sewing machine were my lullaby; I would not be able to fall asleep without them.

人家孩子大了要上學(xué)，我也想讀書，媽媽可犯了難： 小學(xué)校不會收我的。

Other parents all sent their kids to school. I wanted to go to school, too. But my mother became worried. No school would admit a mouse.

媽媽不愿意我一個人去上學(xué)，擔心走在街上人們會打我。我喜歡人，人為何要打我呢？

My mother was also worried about my walking to school alone. She was afraid that people would beat me up as everyone knew the idiom, “When a mouse walks in the street, everyone should hunt it down and beat it up.” But I liked people and did not understand why they would want to beat me.

動物都是我的好朋友，我每天都和它們在一起玩。

All animals were my good friends. I played games with them every day.
